Preventing Addiction in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Services

The Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services regulates facilities providing services to those with a mental illness or addiction. It is also the overseer of the Treatment Programs within the department. These programs are established to meet the needs of persons with mental illnesses and addiction. The mission of the division is to protect the public from the adverse effects of substance abuse and its consequences.

Addiction Treatment Services

There are three main components of community mental health and addiction services providers, a facility, a community-based program, or a specialty unit. Facility services providers are those clinics, hospitals, and homes that offer residential treatment or inpatient treatment for the mentally ill. Community-based programs are those administered by hospitals and organizations such as schools, churches and other agencies. Specialty units are those designed specifically to serve people with one or more specific psychiatric disorders.

Substance abuse and mental health disorders can often co-exist in the same community. However, community mental health centers focus on the needs of people suffering from addiction, while substance abuse treatment services providers focus on the needs of the people who do not suffer from addiction but who are nevertheless challenged by substance abuse substance abuse problems. Most of the time, the problems can be prevented by simply informing the community about them. Community-based treatment services providers should work closely with mental health and addiction treatment centers in the region.

It is very important that these centers give top priority to substance abuse prevention and psychiatric hospitals. It is important that the centers maintain close contact with substance abuse treatment services providers and psychiatric hospitals. In the long run, this will greatly improve the quality of the health care that your loved ones receive.
